Did you know? The First Computer Mouse Was a Wooden Block!

Did you know? The very first computer mouse, invented in 1964 by Douglas Engelbart, was surprisingly made from a hand-carved wooden block with two metal wheels, not plastic or metal as one might assume.

Engelbart's revolutionary "X-Y Position Indicator for a Display System" was first publicly unveiled alongside other groundbreaking technologies during his legendary 1968 "Mother of All Demos." The wooden prototype's two perpendicular wheels tracked movement across a surface, translating physical motion into cursor movement on a screen. This humble device, born from Engelbart's vision at the Stanford Research Institute, laid the fundamental groundwork for how we interact with computers today.
