Did you know? The King of Hindu Gods Got His Thousand Eyes From a Shameful Curse!
Did you know that Indra, the mighty king of Hindu gods, wasn't born with his iconic thousand eyes? They were originally a humiliating curse, only later transforming into symbols of his vigilance.
This peculiar characteristic stemmed from a myth where Indra, disguised as the sage Gautama, deceitfully attempted to seduce Gautama's wife, Ahalya. Upon discovery, the enraged sage cursed Indra to be covered with a thousand *yonis* (vaginas). Only after Indra's sincere repentance and the intervention of other gods did Gautama show pity, transforming the offensive marks into watchful eyes. This gave Indra the epithet 'Sahasraksha,' highlighting both his past misdeeds and his subsequent omnipresent awareness across his dominion.
