DID YOU KNOW…
Medusa's Mortal Secret: The Only Gorgon Who Could Truly Die
While Medusa is famously known for her serpent hair and petrifying gaze, she was actually the only mortal among the three Gorgon sisters; her siblings, Stheno and Euryale, were immortal and could never be slain.
Medusa's unique mortality distinguished her from her formidable sisters and ultimately led to her demise at the hands of Perseus, making her the most prominent but also the most vulnerable. According to Hesiod's *Theogony*, the Gorgons were chthonic monsters, daughters of the ancient sea deities Phorcys and Ceto, embodying primal chaos and fear. Later myths, notably Ovid's *Metamorphoses*, further elaborate on Medusa's backstory, portraying her not as a born monster but as a beautiful priestess cursed by Athena, adding a tragic dimension to her unique fate among her immortal kin.
