The world's first self-propelled two-wheeled vehicle wasn't the gasoline-powered machine often cited, but a steam-powered velocipede that emerged almost two decades earlier. The Michaux-Perreaux steam velocipede, built in France around 1867, truly pioneered the concept of the motorcycle.
