Did you know? In competitive sidecar motorcycle racing, the passenger isn't just ballast; they are an active, highly athletic participant known colloquially as the "monkey" or "swinger," whose dynamic movements are crucial for balancing the outfit through corners.
Unlike a static pillion rider, the "monkey" (or "swinger") dynamically shifts their entire body weight inside and outside the sidecar's platform, often hanging precariously low to the ground. This extreme body positioning helps manage the center of gravity, preventing the sidecar from lifting or overturning and allowing for higher speeds and tighter lines.
