The Tetris Effect: Your Brain's After-Hours Puzzle-Solving Habit
Did you know that after long sessions of playing repetitive games like Tetris, your brain can continue to "play" even when you're not, causing you to see falling blocks or arrange real-world objects in your mind?
This fascinating cognitive phenomenon is known as the Tetris Effect or Game Transfer Phenomenon (GTP). It's a form of hypnagogic imagery, where the brain, particularly areas involved in visual processing and spatial reasoning, continues to rehearse and consolidate the patterns and actions from the intense activity. While commonly associated with video games, similar effects can occur after any highly repetitive task, demonstrating how deeply certain experiences can imprint on our minds and influence our perceptions even outside of conscious awareness.
