The 335-Year War: Longest Conflict Ended Without a Single Shot!

Did you know? The "335 Years' War" between the Netherlands and the Isles of Scilly lasted for over three centuries, from 1651 to 1986, yet remarkably concluded without a single casualty or shot ever being fired.

This bizarre conflict originated during the English Civil War when the Dutch, allied with the Parliamentarians, declared war on the Royalist stronghold of the Scilly Isles in 1651 after suffering losses and not receiving reparations. However, the Royalists surrendered to Parliament soon after, and the Dutch navy departed, effectively forgetting their declaration. For 335 years, a technical state of war existed between the two parties until a local historian from Scilly contacted the Dutch Embassy in 1985, leading to a formal peace treaty signed in 1986. This unique historical anomaly holds the record for the longest war with zero casualties.
