The Farthest Point from Any Ocean: Eurasia's Pole of Inaccessibility

The Eurasian Pole of Inaccessibility, located deep within China's Xinjiang province, is the single point on Earth's largest landmass furthest from any ocean, a staggering 2,648 kilometers away. It's a true continental "deep end."

Poles of Inaccessibility are geographical points defined by their extreme remoteness from specific geographical features, like a coastline. For continents, this means the location on land that is equidistant from the three nearest oceans. The Eurasian Pole, specifically, lies in the Dzungarian Basin. Its precise location was recalculated in 2007, shifting slightly from earlier estimations due to advances in geodesic measurements, highlighting the complexity of such calculations across vast, often rugged, terrain. This remote spot serves as a powerful reminder of the immense scale of our planet's landmasses.
